I have been fascinated by small groups of musicians performing since experiencing an event in the foyer of the Barbican in 1989 and have been exploring the subject ever since. My prime aim is to integrate the gesture of the figure with the music they are playing. As music exists in time and painting is two dimensional, I have to find ways to evoke the idea of the music. Careful listening and making written notes about my response to the music gives me a starting point regarding the kind of colour, compositioin, tonal balance and marks to use. Colour, shape and line predominate, but want to achieve some sense of depth in the painting - which could indicate a sense of time passing.

Exhibitions

As Artist in Residence with Leamington Music since 2006 (www.leamingtonmusic.org) Jane has solo exhibitions every other year (sometimes every year) in conjunction with their Music Festival Weekends in May at the Royal Pump Rooms, Leamington Spa.

Collaboration

She collaborated with Mexican guitarist Morgan Szymanski on his project Sketches of Mexico, her paintings (along with others) are projected wherever he plays these pieces. (see COLLABORATION).

Commission

Warwick School commissioned paintings for their large Recital Room in 2003/4 (see COMMISSION)
