WARWICK SCHOOL commissioned me  in 2004 to make paintings on a musical theme for their large Recital room.  It was a very large room so clearly needed very large paintings.

I needed to consider the size of the room which would dictate to a large extent the size of the paintings.  To achieve anything big enough they needed to be triptychs so I could fit them into the studio I was using.   I set about planning the subject matter which related to the kind of music the school was involved with:
Orchestral, Choral and an enthusiastic wind band.

Having taken careful measurements of the room, positions of doors and windows and how the room is used, I decided on a 4.5 x 1.5m triptych ORCHESTRA and 3.5 x 1.5m triptych CHORUS on the wall with the door.  On the opposite window wall there would be two smaller paintings on the subject of the wind band since when they practised they would be facing that way.

I needed to observe the pupils practising their instruments so went a number of times to draw them.
